Griot's Garage is proud to supply the "Official Car Care Products of America's Car Museum". The LeMay Collection has a fascinating history, and the Museum has grand plans for the future...
The LeMay Story
Harold LeMay realized early on that "there would always be garbage." From a small family business, he built an empire that would eventually serve 125,000 customers. The LeMay holdings came to include refuse and recycling companies, two major landfills, and a towing outfit (among others). In addition to his business tenacity, LeMay also held an enormous passion for automobiles.
The Collection
Along with his wife Nancy, Harold LeMay amassed the largest privately owned collection of automobiles, motorcycles, trucks, other vehicles and related memorabilia in the world, numbering in excess of 3,000 vehicles and thousands of artifacts. This astounding collection spans the entire 20th Century, and tells the tale of America's love affair with the automobile. It features virtually every American make, as well as numerous foreign cars.
America's Car Museum
The magnitude of the LeMay Collection, and its power to relate the story of the American experience with the automobile, demanded a new paradigm in transportation museums. LeMay - America's Car Museum will be just that... a technologically advanced, interactive center that will showcase the cultural impact of cars, motorcycles and trucks on our uniquely American way of life.
Museum CEO David Madeira says it well. "Everybody remembers their first car, family driving vacations, a sports car they fell in love with as a teenager. Personal experiences with cars are at the heart of the American experience, and we're going to showcase more than a century of automotive lifestyle and history as well as the future of transportation."
Upon completion in June of 2012, this $100 million project will be the largest auto museum and attraction in the world, and will bring an estimated 500,000 visitors annually. It will be a gathering place for enthusiasts, collectors, and the curious. Griot's Garage is pleased to help preserve, protect, and beautify the national treasure that is the LeMay Collection.
