Chevrolet launched a cross-country tour to introduce its new Volt, and Griot's Garage was honored to be chosen as the first stop, playing host to excited test drivers, and a media entourage.
People are understandably charged-up about the Volt. It enables most drivers to commute gas and emissions free, for about $1.50 of electricity per day. Plus, its highly-efficient design gives the Volt extended range, opening up the American highways for electric travel.
Until the Volt Unplugged event at Griot's Garage on October 9, the question remained for some, "How does it perform?" All indications from test drivers are that the Volt is a quiet, solidly-built car, with plenty of power (0-60 in the 8 second range). It handles and stops well, and has all the modern comfort, navigation, and entertainment options that consumers have come to expect.
Volt Unplugged at Griot's Garage was a great success. Raffle prizes were awarded, and Chevrolet personnel were on-hand to answer questions while test drivers eagerly awaited their turn behind the wheel. The tour was a great way to showcase a car that looks to be a winner!
Volvo S60 Launch Party
Volvo of America chose Griot's Garage as the venue to celebrate the launch of its incredible, all-new S60 on September 26th. Hundreds of enthusiasts refused to let the rain dampen their spirits. Many brought their own vintage or customized Volvo's to be displayed alongside the new S60. One lucky attendee even won a trip for two to Sweden!
A full lineup of 2011 cars was on display, courtesy of participating Northwest Volvo dealers. Show attendees got the chance to see the cars up close, and perhaps start daydreaming about which model they'd like to put in their own garage. Over 50 unique and vintage Volvo's also made an appearance with Seattle's Brian Fetter taking Show & Shine honors with his outstanding 1968 Volvo 123GT. One very lucky show attendee, Sydney Witt of Seattle, won a trip for two to Sweden. This amazing prize, provided by Volvo Overseas Delivery, definitely added an air of excitement to the day.
As cool as they were, the day wasn't all about the cars. Over $290 was raised for Volvo's charity of choice, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. Volvo pledged to match that amount to help in the fight against childhood cancer.
Thanks to Volvo of America, and everyone who attended the S60 launch party, for a memorable event!
On July 17th, Griot's Garage played host to an incredible gathering of Italian automobiles from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and other prestigious marques. Enthusiast club Exotics at Redmond Town Center, brought down some awesome eye candy, from an Ariel Atom to a 2010 Murcielago. Other local clubs also provided strong support and attendance, and Tacoma's own Adriatic Grill created an amazing lunch menu. They even brought mini chocolate cakes for dessert! A good time was had by all attendees, and over $1,200 was raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. All-in-all, it was another memorable show at Griot's Garage in Tacoma!
Dana Point Concours
Set at the beautiful St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort, this year's Dana Point Concours was wonderful, and featured a wide variety of cars, trucks and motorcycles. The setting is outstanding, as the vehicles sit on a rolling green golf course with the Pacific Ocean in the background. Our friends at the Petersen Museum brought their 1929 Dupont Model G Boattail Speedster dressed in Griot's Garage black-and-red. The car is spectacular and features a Lalique Crystal Eagle hood ornament. Griot's Garage is proud to be the Official Car Care Product Provider for the prestigious Petersen Automotive Museum.
Fiberglass Day at Petersen
Griot's Garage recently headed down the road to sunny southern California to join the Petersen Automotive Museum for Fiberglass Day. This event highlights the Fantasies in Fiberglass exhibit that's on display at the Museum through October 3rd, 2010. The atmosphere was exciting, as car culture permeates the air in this part of the country (is that the cherry scent of Speed Shine® I smell?). We set up demonstrations and toured the displays. Swirl marks were removed, folks got some hands-on time with our Car Care products, and awesome examples of fiberglass fabrication abounded.
Griot's Garage Grand Opening!
On June 5 and 6, after a long winter of hard work, we dedicated the new Griot's Garage Retail Store and Corporate Headquarters with a public grand opening celebration. Thousands of car guys and gals stopped by to check out the new digs, and many brought their own favorite cars. With hundreds of exotics, sports cars, hot rods, and classics rolling through the parking lot all weekend, there was no shortage of eye candy. Visitors were treated to food and entertainment, prize raffles, and free demonstrations in the new Car Care School. Add the chance to rub elbows with a plethora of rare and historic race cars in the Automotive Display Area, and the Griot's Garage grand opening was two days of bliss for car enthusiasts. See more photos and read about the construction on our blog!
Mini Motoring Club Visits
How many Mini's can you fit inside a phone booth? We're not sure, but on May 29th we at least found out how many can fit in front of Griot's Garage! Over 30 guests from Puget Sound Mini Motoring Club visited our new flagship Retail Store and Car Care School in Tacoma for a fun afternoon of product demonstrations, photos, and hanging out with fellow enthusiasts.
