Every fault that fluorescent lights had has been addressed with these lights. No more buzzing ballasts, flickering when initially turned on and in cold conditions, difficult installation or poor color rendering. (Typical fluorescents have low color temperature bulbs and produce a flat colorless light.) These lights operate with an electronic (solid state) ballast to eliminate any buzzing. Turn on the light, and they come on in an instant, much like an incandescent bulb. Now for the best part: the color temperature is 5000 degrees Kelvin which is equivalent to natural light! The amount of light is staggering.
The six T8 fluorescent lamps produce 21,246 lumens, so even when mounted to a 9 foot ceiling, this fixture produces over 150 foot-candles of light on a 42" high bench! This is way over my standard of 100 foot-candles for a work environment. You'll also see true color, and your eyes won't be straining to see any project you're working on.
What's different about these bulbs? It's all in the powdered phosphors used to coat the inside of the fluorescent tube. This coating transforms the ultraviolet radiation into visible light. By combining different phosphors in varying proportions, it is possible to produce lamps in a wide variety of colors. Tri-phosphor is a blend of three expensive narrow band rare earth phosphors (red, blue and green) used to help improve color rendition, color preference and improve light output. A far cry from the flatness and low color temperature of a typical fluorescent bulb.
