Once you enter your battery type and charge rate, it automatically charges your battery to the optimum level and then switches into a maintain mode to keep it there. The microprocessor manages an enhanced maintenance mode with two unique benefits. Once it detects a full charge it goes into a full rest cycle letting your battery cool down (not the typical float mode you find with cheaper units), eliminating the chance of losing electrolytes. After the rest cycle it puts a load on the battery for a partial drain to exercise the battery and then recharges it. To provide the safest charging, the battery fault algorithm precisely manages the charging protocol to detect problems and adapt its charging routine accordingly. It features reverse polarity protection to prevent shorting a battery, the charger, or even an explosion if the wires accidentally get crossed. A selectable charging rate of 20A/10A/2A can quickly recharge even a large dead battery.
