Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use Compared to using the clay bar this is much easier. I was a bit hesitant purchasing it due to the price but considering the time and work it will save not a bad investment. You MUST first break it in on glass (windshield) before using on paint, which isn't explained anywhere on the package. Luckily I contacted GG to ask what speed to set the orbital polisher on (1) and was instructed to do so. I hope it lasts as long as advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Way Better Than Clay! We somehow got a mist of tree sap on our black 2017 Jaguar. I tried sap removers, polish, gunk removers, solvents, everything, and nothing would budge it. When I tried regular clay, the paint was so rough, pieces of the clay actually stuck to it! Finally, as a last resort, and before pulling out the sand paper, I ordered the 6" surface prep pad and gave it a shot. This thing is amazing! I did the windows first (per the instructions)...and after a few passes using my buffer with this pad and a little Speed Shine, they were smooth as silk! Much to my delight, it worked equally well on the paint! The paint was so smooth, just like when the car was new! (which unfortunately was only a few months ago). This pad works so well and is so much easier than clay, this is now my "go to" paint prep before polish and wax for all four of my cars.

Is this like the fine or fast mitt?

Yes, this way you are able to use this with your orbital and you will want to use this item with Speed Shine. PLEASE NOTE: Surface Prep Pads are not recommended for use on matte paint surfaces, as they may modify appearance. Should any light marring occur follow-up with One-Step Sealant or Liquid Wax 3-in-1.

How do you tell when to replace the mitt..

A good indicator that the 6" Surface Prep pad needs replacing is when you begin to notice them losing effectiveness when removing contaminant. The diamond texture on the face of the pad will also be drastically diminished or nearly gone when the Surface Prep pads require replacing.

As long as the backing plate is a hook & loop ( velcro) This would require a 6" backing plate.

When using the Surface Prep Pad with speed shine and then waxing the car, how can I avoid the white accumulation on the black plastic or vinyl? Is there any product that won't cause that to happen?

When using the Surface Prep Pad, you would use this with Speed Shine at a speed 1-2. This will remove contaminates only and will leave behind white residue. When applying wax to the vehicle and if you are using the orbital, then again you will want to us speed 1-2. We do provide Masking tape to prevent this and also Dried on Wax Remover. Generally most waxes will leave a white residue if it is not removed in a timely manner.

Used once on a red car, no issues, used 2nd time on black car where there is a ridge or bend in bodywork left scratches all over that needed to be corrected but was fine on flat areas. Lots of Speed Shine, pad broken in on glass first time. Any ideas?

The 6" Surface Prep Pad is a professional-grade decontamination tool and may require light paint correction following application. If you are using the same amount of pressure with the orbital over the entire surface, then come up to an edge or bend in the panel where there is less surface contact on the pad, the pounds per square inch of pressure then increases, which may be why the edges appear to be scratched/marred more than the rest of the surface. Black paint can sometimes be softer and therefore mar or scratch easier, and it tends to show defects more, which may also have contributed to why you're seeing this on the black car when you didn't on the red. It is normal to experience light marring on a paint finish when performing mechanical decontamination by hand and especially when doing so with an orbital.

In a prior question it was stated that the 6" Surface Prep Pad will not work with the long-throw polishers. Why is that?

Ultimatly the throw of the G21/G15 is to large and aggressive to be used with the surface pad. We recommend using it only with our 6" Random orbital on speed 1 or by hand.

I am using the 6" Surface Prep Pad on a Porter Cable 7346SP. With any pressure at all, the Porter Cable slows its rotation so that there is little, if any, rotation. This is when I am using speed setting 2 or 3. Should I increase the speed setting?

No, the 6" Surface Prep Pad should only be used on a Speed of "One."
